How Exactly Do We Help?
If you’re thinking that we may just be able to help but are wondering what it is we actually do, then read on…
Our main treatment modality is acupuncture. Although simple, it is profound in its effect and has the capacity to eliminate pain, balance hormones, boost immune function, and balance neurotransmitters each time it’s performed. Pretty incredible! It also puts the body into the parasympathetic (rest-digest-heal) mode and in our opinion, is one of the reasons it’s so deeply healing in addition to being relaxing. Especially since most of us spend too much time in the sympathetic (fight-or-flight) mode.
Although acupuncture is intended to be a stand alone treatment, we find that most people in this country aren’t able to make it in as frequently as they need to for it to really get to the bottom of chronic, complex conditions. In China, it’s not uncommon to get acupuncture multiple times a week and to always be on some type of Chinese herbal medicine tea.
For that reason, we recommend a comprehensive approach of acupuncture and functional medicine for best results. When combined, these modalities have a special synergy that makes each of them more effective long-term. Acupuncture has the ability to balance you on the spot. And functional labs give us a snapshot of what’s going on beneath the surface so we can come up with a hand-tailored health plan based on you and your lab findings. Your health plan then gives your body the nutrients and herbs it needs- in a targeted way and on a daily basis- so that we can really go deep with healing.
Here’s an overview of our services…
Standard New Patient Appointment with Acupuncture:
Includes Acupuncture, Functional Medicine, and a Nutritional Supplement & Herbal Medicine Consult.
For most people, this is where you start. On your first visit, we do a comprehensive health history so we can really get to know what’s going on with you and how to best help. Then we do an assessment and suggest a treatment plan- including how many acupuncture treatments we think you’ll need, functional labs you’d most benefit from and a supplement plan for you to get started on.

Microneedling:
It is a type of cosmetic procedure that helps rejuvenate your skin by boosting collage production. Doing so reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. During a session, a device will be used to make small pricks on the skin with short, sterilized needles to promote your body’s natural healing response. The result is more plumped, youthful, and glowing skin.

Red Light Therapy Session:
Red Light Therapy (RLT) uses red, low-level wavelengths of light to treat skin issues such as: dull skin, age spots, wrinkles, redness, acne, scars, sun damage, persistent wounds and other signs of aging(fine lines). It’s also touted to treat other medical conditions. RLT is a treatment that helps muscle tissue, and other parts of your body heal. It exposes you to very low levels of heat (without the risk of damage, burn, or UV rays). With more energy, other cells can do their work more efficiently, such as: repairing skin, improving skin laxity, boosting new cell growth, enhancing skin rejuvenation, and promoting collagen production.

Functional Lab Services:
The difference between Western Medicine Labs and Functional Medicine Labs…
Western labs look for disease markers. When physicians find a value out of range, they prescribe a medication to bring it back into range. These tests provide us with useful information, but they also pose certain problems: 1) They do not address the root of the problem, and often as soon as the patient goes off of the medication, their values go back out of range (take cholesterol for example). So, typically the patient is prescribed the medication for life, which often comes with side effects. 2) Many times patients go to their doctor with a long list of symptoms because they are not feeling well, and after numerous tests, everything comes back ‘normal’. They certainly don’t feel ‘normal’, but because they don’t have a diagnosable disease, nothing shows up.
Functional labs are different in that they measure ideal physiological function. Every organ system has an ideal way that it should function and any deviation from perfect leaves room for improvement. Because no one is perfect, labs will always show where that individual can improve. We use labs to confirm which organ systems are out of balance and by how much and then we design a health plan with specific nutrients and herbals to bring that individual back into balance.
We offer an array of functional labs:
Hair Analysis (by Analytical Research Labs)
Measures mineral levels, toxic metals, as well as important mineral ratios that indicate organ system function (blood sugar, adrenal, thyroid, sex hormone, protein synthesis). Recommended for all patients as an annual test, or more frequently for targeted treatments where we need to monitor certain values.
DUTCH Test (by Precision Analytics)
A comprehensive assessment of sex and adrenal hormones and their metabolites. It also includes the daily, free cortisol patterns, organic acids, melatonin (6-OHMS) and 8-OHdG.
Organix Comprehensive (by Genova Diagnostics)
Measures neurotransmitters, gut dysbiosis, liver detox pathways, and nutrient absorption. Recommended for specific health concerns or as an annual wellness test.
SIBO (Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth) (by Biohealth Laboratory)
Looks for the presence of abnormally large numbers of bacteria in the small intestine. Recommended for patients with irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), digestive upset, or chronic illness.
Cyrex Laboratories
Measures gluten sensitivity, cross reactivity of the common inflammatory foods, and autoimmune reactivity in the presence of certain food triggers. Recommended for all patients with autoimmune disease or chronic, complex conditions.
Organic Acids Test (OAT) (by The Great Plains Laboratory)
Offers a comprehensive metabolic snapshot of a patient’s overall health with 76 markers. It provides an accurate evaluation of intestinal yeast and bacteria. Upon treatment, patients and practitioners have reported significant improvement such as decreased fatigue, regular bowel function, increased energy and alertness, increased concentration, improved verbal skills, less hyperactivity, and decreased abdominal pain.
GPL-TOX (by The Great Plains Laboratory)
Screens for 173 different environmental pollutants using 18 different metabolites, all from a single urine sample. This profile also includes Tiglylglycine (TG), a marker for mitochondrial disorders resulting from mutations of mitochondrial DNA. These mutations can be caused by exposure to toxic chemicals, infections, inflammation, and nutritional deficiencies.
MycoTOX (by The Great Plains Laboratory)
Screens for eleven different mycotoxins, from 40 species of mold, in one urine sample. It is the most comprehensive and competitively priced mycotoxin test available. Mycotoxins (toxins from mold) are some of the most prevalent toxins in the environment. These are metabolites produced by fungi like mold, which can infest buildings, vehicles, and foodstuffs.
Glyphosate (by The Great Plains Laboratory)
The world’s most widely produced herbicide and is the primary toxic chemical in Roundup™, as well as in many other herbicides. Treatment of glyphosate toxicity should be centered on determining the route of introduction and avoiding future exposure. Eating non-GMO (genetically modified organism) foods and drinking reverse osmosis water are two of the best ways to avoid glyphosate.
Immunoglobulin G (IgG) (by The Great Plains Laboratory)
Determines if food reactions are contributing to physical or mental symptoms, and much more quickly than eliminating and then reintroducing each suspect food one-by-one over a period of time. Eliminating all identified IgG-positive foods after testing can reduce stress on the immune system, decrease inflammation (helping to heal “leaky gut”), resolve food cravings, and reduce the potential for eating disorders.
